Inspired by my interest in the interaction between designer and viewer, this experimental publication considers the question, ‘how can an attempt at communicating an idea be manipulated through the flexibility of language?’ In the exchange of a message, slippage always occurs to some degree. The received meaning is a fragmented copy of the original. I have found interest in how meaning is lost, gained and altered. Of Significance seeks to elevate the role of the designer while addressing the role of the viewer, as ultimately, both play important parts in the quest to generate meaning. This work was one of 30 pieces by NZ artists and designers selected for Objectspace's Best in Show 2015.
